A loving marriage gone awry – Winston Tank Elguezabal was a Chicago area DJ in the news after murdering his wife, Julie, and then killing himself in yet another case of murder-suicide.

Villa Park Police were called to the 300 Block of East Monroe due to multiple reports of shots fired and a Bischof GPS monitoring alarm going off.

Officers were greeted with a gruesome sight when they got into the residence – the sight of two people who had clearly been a couple, dead – one after being shot and the other from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The deceased were identified as 47-year-old male, Winston Tank Elguezabal and 49-year-old female, Julie Elguezabal.

Authorities recovered the murder weapon from beside the body of Winston.

This particular murder-suicide raises numerous issues, particularly due to the fact that Winston had recently been arrested for attacking his wife and been released on pre-trial supervision.

Many things had to go wrong for him to get the opportunity to murder his wife and we delve into those issues below.

Who was Winston Tank Elguezabal?

Elguezabal was a DJ from Chicago, Illinois, with a Soundcloud account where he shares some mixes and his music.

His wife, Julie Elguezabal, hailed from Elmhurst.

Winston was father to five kids – Angela, Alyssa, Daisy, Gabriella, Winston Jr. and Nathan.

After a long marriage, it appeared things had started breaking down in the Elguezabal household.

Winston was arrested on April 14th 2024 for domestic violence against his wife Julie – reportedly having grabbed his wife by the hair and punching her in the face, neck and back.

He was released pre-trial but was placed on electronic monitoring with a GPS monitor attached to his ankle.

He was additionally ordered to stay 1000 feet from his wife, her home, and workplace, while authorities confiscated all firearms and his firearm owner ID.

Despite being arrested for abusing her, Elguezabal appeared to have tons of conflicting feelings about his wife, particularly due to a post he shared about four days before murdering her.

Winston had shared a photo of themselves on Facebook, declaring her the ‘love of his life’.

Despite his public protestation of love, he had sinister plans for Julie, even despite all the restrictions placed on him by the state to ensure he does not harm her again.

On the fateful day, he stormed her residence where she and two of their kids, as well as the family dog, were in the house together.

Winston had somehow also managed to procure a firearm, despite the State erroneously believing they had confiscated all his weapons.

Having been ordered to stay 1,000 feet away from Julie and fitted with a GPS monitor, the alarm went off after he flouted the restrictions but the flaw in the system which really needs addressing is that not only was no one protecting Julie but evidently no one was close enough to make it over to her place in time.

By the time police made it over, both she and her husband were dead.

Thankfully, Winston decided to spare the kids because we have seen multiple cases of murder-suicide where the deranged lunatic in his rage takes out kids as well!

The system completely failed Julie and this wasn’t lost on the DuPage County State’s Attorney in her statement following the incident.

“In the aftermath of this horrific incident, I intend to meet with all stakeholders to enhance protections for victims of domestic battery and improve the manner and timeliness in which information is provided to prosecutors,” the statement said, in part.

It’s often said that love/hate are two sides of the same coin and we find this manifested many times when such cases spring up.

A couple who have been together through thick and thin and love each other to death turn on each other and more often than not if the root issue is not tackled, it can end in such tragic circumstances.

Peace and love to the families who have lost their relatives in such tragic fashion.
