A Newberg, Oregon man who was arrested for the murder of missing Providence nurse Melissa Jubane has been identified as Bryce Jonathan Schubert, a nurse and a neighbor of Jubane in Beaverton.
27-year-old Bryce Johnathan Schubert was arrested Friday night after an extensive investigation into the disappearance of the newlywed nurse, 32, who went missing on Wednesday.
Schubert was previously a nurse at Providence Portland Medical Center but left the role in October 2023. Jubane was a nurse at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center at the time of her disappearance and death.
Police charged Schubert with second-degree murder but have yet to release details of a motive for the crime. He is being held at Washington County Jail. Jubane’s remains have been recovered.
According to Beaverton Police, Melissa was reported missing on Wednesday after she didn’t arrive for her morning shift as a nurse at Providence St. Vincent Center in Portland.
Her relatives requested a welfare check at that time and Beaverton Police officers responded to Melissa’s residence at 1050 SW 160th Avenue, in Beaverton. Upon arrival, officers were met by staff from the apartment complex and conducted a search of Melissa’s apartment. Melissa was not present, and her absence without communication was deemed unusual and alarming. Efforts by officers and family members to contact Melissa throughout the day were unsuccessful, as her phone appeared to be turned off.
After their extensive investigation, Beaverton Police developed Schubert as a suspect. He was arrested Friday evening and charged with second-degree murder.
Providence St. Vincent Medical Center released a statement on Jubane’s passing.
“Our hearts are broken at the news of the death of our Providence St. Vincent nurse and colleague, Melissa Jubane. This comes as a shock to us all and she is mourned by her co-workers. Melissa was an exceptional nurse, committed to our Providence Mission and daily demonstrating our values of compassion, excellence and integrity,” the statement said. “We stand in support of her loved ones and those who worked so closely with Melissa.
