A mother and her three daughters who were found dead in a home in Wolcottville, Indiana, on Tuesday have been identified by the Noble County Coroner.
32-year-old Rebecca Hughes, and her three daughters, 8-year-old Evalynn Newell, 6-year-old Allison Newell, and 5-year-old Amelia Newell, were all found dead by Wolcottville PD officers at a house south of County Line Road – where Main Street becomes Kelly Street.
The coroner withheld cause and manner of death but the children’s father, Jonathan Newell of Kendallville, revealed in a GoFundMe he launched that their deaths were a murder-suicide.
Jonathan Newell wrote on GoFundMe: “My name is Jonathan Newell. These are my daughters, Evalynn, Ally, and Mia. I need help with funeral costs for all three. I don’t ask people for help, but these kids deserve so much more than I can provide for their burials. Rebecca, their mom, took them with her when she passed on 09/17/2024. If you can, everything helps. If you need to be paid back after, I can make payments. I’ll do whatever it takes,”
Friends, family members, and neighbors started a small memorial for the girls following the shocking incident with Flowers, candles, and reminders placed on the steps of the home.
Neighbors say they will miss hearing the girls play.
“They were beautiful little girls that I would often see out here playing they were playing on the trampoline. The dog was barking and playing with them just here in the laughter and now total silence,” said Pam Laughlin a Wolcottville Resident.
