Jack Braun, a 17-year-old student of the Minisink Valley High School in Middletown NY has been killed following a car accident.
Braun died in a one-vehicle crash early Saturday in Mamakating.
Braun and three other Minisink Valley students were in a 2014 white Honda CRV on State Route 17 West when the car went down a steep ravine.
One student died and two others sustained life-threatening injuries. The driver, also 17 years old, survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities believe he was impaired at the time of the crash and have charged him with vehicular manslaughter and DWI.
New York State Patrol troopers were called at approximately 1:28 a.m. to a one car motor vehicle crash in the area of exit 114 in the town of Mamakating.
Troopers found a 2014 white Honda CRV that exited the shoulder of the roadway and travelled down a steep ravine and overturning.
Braun was killed in the crash and two other students remain in critical condition.
The Minisink Valley High School has made counselors available to provide additional support for students and staff.
New York State Police continues to investigate the crash.
